Specifically, Unicorn’s unshakable belief that a candy mountain waits at the end of every rainbow versus Troll’s determination to explain the exact physics of light refraction.
As they set off through the dense prehistoric jungles, their official mission was clear: make it to the Mysterious Mountain before sunset. This journey was their celestial sentence, handed down by Troll’s father, King Angus Gumwillows, to teach them a lesson in cooperation. But keeping Unicorn—the sweet-toothed, endlessly optimistic Sparkles—on a straight path is like trying to lasso a stray breeze. Endlessly cheerful and perpetually dreaming of treats, Sparkles spotted a glorious rainbow arching over the primeval canopy and immediately begged for a detour. With his signature s-to-th lisp, he proclaimed, “There’th definitely a candy mountain at the end of it.”
For Troll, this was the ultimate test of patience. Armed with scientific facts and a healthy dose of sarcasm, he tried to ground his companion with hard science, explaining that rainbows are merely optical illusions caused by the refraction of light inside water droplets. But when you’re a magical fae creature exiled on a strange prehistoric planet, boring old atmospheric physics doesn’t quite hold the same appeal as a mountain made of actual sugar.
This delightful clash of magical optimism and grumbly practicality is the absolute heart of their dynamic. While Troll worries about sunset deadlines, dangerous predators, and the limitations of his weakened elemental magic, Unicorn is busy finding wonder in every leaf and cloud. It’s this very contrast that helps them survive the wild trials ahead. Sometimes you need a cold dose of logic to stay alive, but other times, a little bit of “faith, trust, and pixie dust”—and maybe a dream of a candy mountain—is exactly what keeps you moving forward.
