Typical!
There is nothing quite like a high-angle shot to make you realize just how far out of your comfort zone you really are. In this panel from Page 7 of our first episode, Troll and Unicorn are navigating the strange, curved corridors of what they’ve slowly realized is definitely not an ordinary rock formation. Instead of a damp cave, they are running through the metallic, futuristic interior of a crashed Eldaryn spaceship!
Our illustrator, Bachan Carrillo, used a brilliant high-angle perspective here to emphasize the sheer scale of the vessel. By placing the camera high above, we get a clear view of the sweeping curves of the hallway, making Troll and Unicorn look delightfully small in this alien environment. It really drives home the feeling of being trapped inside a mysterious technological maze. For a comic artist, perspective isn’t just about showing where things are—it’s about conveying emotion. Here, the overhead shot makes the environment feel looming and unfamiliar.
Naturally, our two heroes are reacting to the situation in their signature styles. Troll is in full-on survival mode, sprinting ahead with a thoroughly annoyed grunt of “TYPICAL.” For a scientifically minded exile who prefers order and logic, stumbling into a high-tech planetary crash site is just another Tuesday. Troll’s magic needs sunlight to recharge, meaning his current capabilities are limited inside this shadowy hull, making his desire to find a quick exit even more urgent. Meanwhile, Unicorn is trailing slightly behind, looking up with a giant question mark floating over his head. While Troll calculates escape routes and stresses over alien technology, Unicorn is likely wondering if this giant metal cave has a snack bar.
The warm, earthy tones of the corridors keep the sci-fi setting feeling grounded and organic, aligning with the advanced, nature-connected aesthetics of Eldaryn technology. But with the ship’s reactor core compromised, there isn’t much time for sightseeing! If you found yourself lost in a mysterious, glowing alien vessel, would you sprint for the exit like Troll, or would you stop to examine every glowing blue pad like Unicorn?
