Whath Thith? A Very Unicorn-Style Emergency

There is an art to surviving a crashed spaceship, and step one is usually “listen to the giant computerized voice telling you to run.” Unfortunately for our heroes, Unicorn must have missed that chapter in the survival guide. In today’s panel, we find Sparkles peeking into a metallic, glowing blue corridor of the crashed vessel, completely oblivious to the impending doom echoed by the ship’s intercom.

“T minus 3 minutes to self destruct. Please move to minimal safe distance,” blares the jagged speech box overhead. It is a moment of pure, high-stakes tension. And yet, Unicorn’s response is a delightfully distracted, “Whoa! Whath thith?” as he stares down at a series of circular floor plates glowing in the corridor. It perfectly encapsulates his endearing, albeit entirely reckless, character design.

Jonathan Borthwick’s choice to give Unicorn a pronounced lisp (“th” for “s”) is more than just a cute vocal quirk; it instantly defines his youthful, innocent, and perpetually curious nature. While Troll is likely nursing a massive headache trying to figure a way out of this high-tech metal cave, Unicorn treats the situation like a trip to an alien candy store. The contrast between the looming sci-fi catastrophe and Unicorn’s playful wonder is where the heart of Troll & Unicorn truly beats.

But what exactly are these glowing floor plates? To a fantasy creature like Unicorn, they probably look like magical stepping stones or giant, glowing blue coins. In a high-tech vessel, however, circular pads on the floor usually mean one of two things: high-speed transit or a very sudden relocation. Standing on them during a countdown might not be the most scientifically sound decision, but Unicorn has never let science get in the way of a good mystery.

Whether these glowing pads lead to safety or straight into more cosmic chaos, Unicorn’s absolute lack of self-preservation continues to drive the adventure forward. One thing is for sure: with only three minutes left on the clock, things are about to get incredibly fast-paced for our favorite fantasy duo!
